Thieves stole 240 Christmas trees from the Dorset garden centre Stewarts Garden Lands in Chrischurch. The audacious crime was committed in the evening after the garden centre had closed and has left the owners business struggling. Dorset Police are appealing for information, call them on 01202 01305 22 22 22.


National Tree Week begins

Hilary Benn helped support the launch of National Tree Week, which involves local authorities, community groups and the RHS. The initiative is hoped to encourage tree planting activities and events around the country. The event runs until 6th December and includes a record breaking attempt by over 250,000 people around the world to plant a tree.


Forestry Commission report released

A recent study by the Forestry Commission recommends that more woodland is created and further research is conducted into species that can endure future climate changes. The study conducted by scientists from the University of Sheffield is called “Combating Climate Change: A Role for UK Forests”

Royal Horticultural Society curator leaves to join The Landscape Agency

Matthew Wilson the curator of the Royal Horticultural Society has left after ten years to join the The Landscape Agency whose clients include the Royal Horticultural Society, English Heritage and the National Trust.


Boris Johnson agrees Two Hundred Trees for Ealing

The lord mayor of London Boris Johnson has sanctioned a grant that will allow the London Borough of Ealing to plant over two hundred trees in their area. Boris Johnson announced earlier this year that he would commit to the planting of ten thousand trees in London.


75% of active gardeners surf the web for information

The HTA Garden Industry Monitor found that 80% of gardeners surf the web for information on their interests, while 70% search for product or service information. Another report found that gardeners care more about environmental issues than the average person.
